HOUSTON (AP) — Officers have fatally shot a capital murder suspect and apprehended another following a shootout near Houston.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Friday that 48-year-old James Earl Nicholas was killed a day earlier after officers with a fugitive task force tracked him to an apartment complex. Authorities say he fired on the officers as they moved to arrest him.
His accomplice, 40-year-old Kimberly Cormier, suffered minor injuries and was being held Friday without bond on a capital murder charge.
The sheriff’s office said the two suspects were driving a vehicle belonging to a murder victim, Jose Bonilla.
Authorities say Cormier provided investigators with a statement linking Nicholas to not just Bonilla’s killing last week, but also three others.
