Maryland authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at a correctional facility in western Maryland.
The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services said in a statement that a male inmate was found unresponsive in his cell at the Western Correctional Institution at about 5:15 a.m. Wednesday. Staff performed CPR, but the inmate was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of death is still under investigation, and the agency didn’t release the dead man’s name.
The facility is located in Cresaptown, Md., south of Cumberland.
