Infowars host Alex Jones will be refunded the $75,000 he was fined for failing to show up to depositions for a defamation lawsuit related to the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting.
Jones accrued the $75,000 in fines, $25,000 on the first day and $50,000 on the second day, for his failure to appear in court after the families of eight victims of the school shooting, along with an FBI agent, sued Jones for defamation. The radio host had claimed the shooting did not happen.
“I could’ve done a better job on Sandy Hook,” Jones said on Infowars after his first day of testimony. “Some of the anomalies that we reported on were not accurate, and I admitted it years before I was sued.”
SANDY HOOK FAMILIES REJECT $120,000 SETTLEMENT FROM ALEX JONES
Jones completed two days of testimony earlier this month despite skipping the two days in March.
The radio host went above and beyond what was expected by listening to depositions past normal hours and should be reimbursed for the fines, Jones’s lawyers argued, according to NBC News. But the plaintiffs wanted Jones jailed for his failure to show up, arguing he had been healthy enough to go on his own radio show three times that same week.
The families were harassed and sent death threats by Jones’s supporters following his claim that the shooting was a false flag, according to the lawsuit. Jones has since admitted the shooting that took the lives of 20 first graders and six school employees in Newtown, Connecticut, was real.
The parties in the defamation suit, which was filed four years ago in the Waterbury Superior Court, rejected Jones’s $120,000 settlement offer last month.
Lawyers for Jones have been working to dismiss the suit for more than a year.

Jones was previously found liable for damages in Connecticut and in a similar lawsuit in Texas.
Families of the victims reached a $73 million deal in February with the manufacturer of the gun used in the shooting.
