Why did Demi Lovato abruptly quit her tour with the Jonas Brothers and enter a treatment facility? The 18-year-old Disney star’s rep said obliquely that she is wrestling with “emotional and physical issues she has dealt with for some time.”
Meaning? A source confides to People magazine, “She was bullied in school. She fought through eating disorders and has struggled with cutting.”
In 2008, tabloids speculated that the “Camp Rock” star was “cutting,” or self-mutilating, when she was photographed with lines on her wrists. Her rep attributed them to tight “gummy bracelets” that had left “indentations.”
And from the time she entered show business, another source tells People, “she definitely had body-image issues. She was always on a diet.”
According to TMZ, a physical altercation with a female dancer on her tour was a “catalyst” for the singer-actress to seek treatment.
“She needed help before a smaller problem got worse,” a source explains to Us magazine. “She is doing OK. She has been forced into showbiz from a young age and that puts tremendous pressure on someone … everyone is really happy she is getting help.”
Agreed. Too many teen stars are pressured by paycheck-seeking parents and handlers to put their careers ahead of their own well-being (cough — Lindsay — cough).
Divorce Deal
They’ve been separated since the Christmas Day incident that led to domestic violence charges, so why did Charlie Sheen suddenly end his marriage now? The actor and estranged wife Brooke Mueller had agreed to file for divorce in tandem as a united front, TMZ reports — they signed papers divvying up assets way back in May — but Charlie got antsy when he found out about Brooke’s upcoming reality show.
The “Two and a Half Men” star allegedly decided he didn’t want the divorce proceedings playing out on TV, so he opted to make “a fresh start” by terminating the marriage. Brooke followed up by filing her own petition.
Per the May papers, Brooke will get primary physical custody of twin sons Bob and Max, but Charlie will share legal custody and have visitation rights.
And oh yeah, Brooke gets $55,000 a month in child support, plus a lump sum of $750,000 and $1 million toward the house Charlie is keeping. With numbers like those, we won’t be surprised if the notoriously volatile star actually finds a woman willing to be his next ex-wife.
LeAnn Engaged?
Memo to LeAnn Rimes’ publicist: Delete her Twitter feed, ASAP! The country singer hasn’t done her image any favors by repeatedly tweeting lovey-dovey missives about beau Eddie Cibrian — who was married when they began their romance, as was she. And just a week after the editor of Shape magazine apologized for LeAnn’s cover interview, saying it “was not meant to put a husband-stealer on a pedestal,” the couple again flaunted the romance, with a he-tweeted-she-retweeted pic that appeared to show Eddie proposing.
In the Halloween-themed shot, the former “CSI: Miami” star is down on one knee, while LeAnn covers her mouth as if in excited surprise. A sign behind them reads “White Chapel — Lunatic Asylum.”
But “they are not engaged,” a source close to the star told People. “It was just part of the Halloween fun.”
Guys, keep the mushy stuff under the radar for a while, and maybe fans will forgive and forget.
