Republican Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney stated that the “send her back” chants from President Trump’s North Carolina rally last week were unacceptable, during a Sunday morning appearance on Face the Nation.
“You’ve heard him say that the chant was inappropriate. We’ve all said the chant was inappropriate,” Cheney said.
Faced a series of questions about President Trump’s recent battles with the ultra-liberal Democratic faction of Congress, Cheney repeatedly denied the accusations of racism, saying, “I think the news media really wants to make this about race … This isn’t about race. It’s not about gender. It’s not about religion.”
Further making the point that Trump was not attacking the race or ethnicity of the congresswomen, Cheney noted that “the squad” and several other lawmakers “fundamentally believe in policies that are dangerous for this nation. As Republicans, we are going to fight against those even if the mainstream media accuses us of racism when we do that.”
“I would really like to see the media as focused on the substance of what this wing of the Democratic wing of this party is advocating because that is really dangerous for our country. Socialism is dangerous,” Cheney continued. She further pointed out several instances of what she believed were anti-American and anti-Semitic remarks from Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan.
In an early Sunday tweet, Trump reiterated his displeasure with the squad, saying, “I don’t believe the four Congresswomen are capable of loving our Country. They should apologize to America (and Israel) for the horrible (hateful) things they have said. They are destroying the Democrat Party, but are weak & insecure people who can never destroy our great Nation!”

Facing a question about the “send her back” chant one more time, Cheney reiterated, “It’s absolutely wrong. It should not have happened. We all said it shouldn’t have happened.”
