FBI agent charged with abducting woman

An FBI agent was accused of holding a woman against her will for more than five hours in her Crystal City apartment with the intent to sexually abuse her, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

Carl Lee Spicocchi, 54, was arrested the night of Aug. 23 after the woman, 50, escaped and called the police, police spokesman John Lisle said. Spicocchi was found in the woman’s apartment building carrying a handgun, Lisle said. Spicocchi and the woman knew each other, and the woman suffered minor injuries, Lisle said.

Spicocchi, who also lives in Crystal City, has been on temporary assignment at FBI headquarters in Washington for a year and a half. Before that, he was the head of the bureau’s office in Toledo, Ohio. FBI spokesman Bill Carter said he could not comment on the specific charges nor on Spicocchi’s employment history because of privacy issues.

“Any time an agent is involved in inappropriate activity, there is an administrative inquiry that is conducted,” he said. The bureau would take into account the results of a criminal trial when deciding upon disciplinary action, he added.

“The allegations against Agent Spicocchi are totally out of character,” said Spicocchi’s lawyer, Thomas Abbenante. “He has a history of distinguished service in law enforcement and to his country.” Spicocchi is charged with abduction with intent to defile, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and assault and battery. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing Oct. 18.
