Five Northern Virginia school districts received kudos from the state for having some of their elementary schools raise achievement of low-income students.
Fairfax County’s Belvedere and Pine Spring elementary schools were named “Title I Distinguished Schools” by the Virginia Department of Education for: meeting Standards of Learning benchmarks for two straight years; meeting federal reading and math benchmarks; and keeping test scores at the 60th percentile or above.
“These schools share a commitment to instruction and accountability that is grounded in the belief that all children can succeed,” Superintendent of Public Instruction Patricia I. Wright said.
Falls Church, Alexandria, Arlington and Prince William school districts each had one elementary school receive the honor, which was given to 103 schools total. Seven school districts were honored as “Distinguished Title I School Division”s, but local systems didn’t make the cut.
