An Arlington motorcycle police officer sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries when she was struck by a car Thursday morning near the Pentagon.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Route 110 near Washington Boulevard, snarling traffic while the officer was taken from the scene to George Washington University Medical Center.

The road was closed in both directions following the accident.

The unidentified officer was using a radar gun to perform traffic enforcement operations when she was hit by a Nissan sedan. The officer was attempting to stop the vehicle when the incident occurred.

The driver of the Nissan stopped when she hit the officer.

Police spokesman John Lisle said the county’s critical accident team responded to the scene.

The officer normally works on the department’s motorcycle unit, but was working out of a patrol car Thursday.

“We’re doing a full investigation of the accident,” Lisle said.
