U.S. airstrikes killed 20 civilians from September to February

A total of 20 civilians have been killed and 11 wounded over the course of nine U.S. airstrikes in Iraq and Syria from Sept. 10 to Feb. 2, the military said Friday.

“We deeply regret the unintentional loss of life and injuries resulting from those strikes and express our deepest sympathies to the victims’ families and those affected,” U.S. Central Command said in a release. “We are sharing this information with the public as part of our commitment to transparency. We continue to review additional claims of civilian casualties and will provide additional information in the future.”

Those numbers are in addition to the 26 previously confirmed civilian deaths, according to U.S. Central Command, which oversees operations in the Middle East.
