MoCo saving trees and big bucks

Montgomery County says it is reaping big benefits from County Executive Ike Leggett’s paper and printing initiative, which has resulted in a 20-percent reduction in overall paper purchases by the county. That translated into $2.09 million in savings on printing and mail expenditures, the county said.

The initial goal of the paper and printing reduction initiative was to save $1 million and reduce paper usage by 15 percent. Officials have now recommended that the county aim for an additional target reduction of 3 to 5 percent.

Paper use already has been reduced by more than 52 million sheets. That’s a lot of trees.
