An intern at the Omni Shoreham Hotel found a new creative use for the thousands of linens that the hotel discards every year. Monika Lutz cut and twisted them into dog toys. Inspired by Lutz’s efforts, the hotel and the Washington Humane Society will host the Towels to Toys Recycling Event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the hotel, 2500 Calvert St. NW. The event is open to the public, and dog owners are encouraged to bring along their furry friends. All toys created during the day will be donated to local humane societies. — Roxanne Turnbull
