Man survives 4-story jump from Metro parking garage

<br/><small><a href=”http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&amp;t=m&amp;vpsrc=6&amp;ll=38.766197,-77.168484&amp;spn=0.006692,0.00854&amp;z=15&amp;source=embed” style=”color:#0000FF;text-align:left”>View Larger Map</a></small></div> <p>A man jumped from a Metro parking garage midday Tuesday in an apparent suicide attempt but survived the four-story fall, according to transit agency.</p> <p>The man jumped from the top of the six-level parking garage at the Franconia-Springfield stop of the Blue Line around 12:15 p.m., Metro spokeswoman Cathy Asato said. He landed on a second story overhang.</p> <p>The man was taken to a local hospital with injuries that are said to not be life threatening. Metro officials believe the jump was intentional from witness reports, Asato said. His name and age were not released.</p> <p>Metro service was not disrupted, Asato said.</p> <p>Metro’s parking garages have been used for suicides in the past, with at least three deaths in the past two years. But the train system is more commonly used in suicides, so much so that Metro is <a href=”http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/local/dc/2011/10/metro-starts-training-workers-intervene-suicidal-riders#ixzz1eT8REaNC” target=”_blank”>training employees on how to intervene and plans a public outreach campaign</a> to try to prevent the attempts.</p>
