Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar is being treated for a digestive infection known as diverticulitis and will not be able to attend a budget hearing scheduled for Thursday.
The hearing will be postponed, but Azar has been working despite his illness, an HHS spokesperson confirmed to the Washington Examiner.
The agency first made the illness public on Sunday evening. Azar was treated with antibiotics at St. Vincent hospital in Indianapolis, where he remained overnight.
He had tweeted Monday that he intended to return to the HHS headquarters in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, but it’s not yet clear whether those plans will change.
