Donald Trump spent most of his Panama City, Fl., rally Tuesday night hitting Hillary Clinton over details about her campaign that have emerged in more than 5,000 hacked emails made public by WikiLeaks since last Friday.
Twenty-four hours after Trump said “I love WikiLeaks” at a separate campaign event in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., the Republican presidential nominee continued to slam his Democratic opponent using material found in the trove of illegally obtained emails from her campaign chairman, John Podesta.
The leaked emails confirmed that “Hillary is a vessel for the corrupt global establishment that is ruining the sovereignty of our nation,” Trump charged in the first 15 minutes of his evening rally.
The former secretary of state gave special attention to her husband’s friends after a massive earthquake struck Haiti in 2010, Trump said, this time referring to a leaked email exchange between top Clinton Foundation officials and a senior Clinton aide that was included in the WikiLeaks dump.
“As people were dying in Haiti, Clinton insiders were separating out requests from friends of Bill or William Jefferson Clinton VIPs so that their business interests or contracts would receive very special treatment,” he said.
Trump carried on for several minutes, hitting his opponent over evidence of “corruption” that his campaign had compiled from the leaked WikiLeaks documents.
“Today we learned, amazingly, that the Department of Justice fed information to the Clinton campaign about the email investigation so that the campaign could be prepared to cover up her crimes,” he said.
“The new emails show members of the Clinton team attacking Catholics,” Trump continued. “While this is offensive, it’s just the latest evidence of the hatred the Clinton campaign has for everyday Americans and you see so much from these WikiLeaks — there is so much.”
“The wikileaks emails show that Hillary’s staff even has given up secret notes on when she needs to smile. It’s all a phony deal with her,” he told the crowd.
Clinton campaign spokesman Brian Fallon has accused WikiLeaks of being a “propaganda arm” for Kremlin forces who want to see Trump get elected and advised members of the media not to treat the leaked documents like they are the “same” as a Freedom of Information Act request.
“If you are going to write about materials issued by @wikileaks, you should at least state they are product of illegal hack by a foreign govt,” Fallon tweeted on Monday, adding that the activist group is “colluding with [the] Russian government to help Trump.”
For his part, Trump has flatly ignored concerns about the leaked documents and warnings from U.S. intelligence officials that Moscow is trying to influence the election.
“The Hillary Clinton documents released today by WikiLeaks make more clear than ever how much is at stake this election,” he told the crowd in Panama City. “A vote for Hillary is a vote for more reckless foreign invasions, more Wall Street cheating, more terrible trade deals and, as confirmed just today by WikiLeaks, Hillary also wants to cut Medicare and Social Security.”
