THE DAILY OUTRAGE: Hot bunnies

WHO: Hanford nuclear reservation

WHAT: The former Washington state nuclear facility once produced two-thirds of the plutonium needed for the U.S. nuclear arsenal. Now, because of contamination, a government contractor is using $300,000 in federal stimulus funds for a GPS-equipped helicopter to locate low-grade radioactive rabbit droppings at Hanford. Meanwhile, the Environmental Protection Agency is deliberately contaminating honeybees at other nuclear sites.

WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: Somehow we doubt that the American taxpayer would have willingly signed up for tracking down nuclear rabbit poo.

WHERE TO VENT: Call the Department of Energy, which is supposedly overseeing the multibillion-dollar cleanup of the Hanford site, and the EPA at 202-586-5000.
