McDonnell: “Not running for anything”

Gov. Bob McDonnell took to the airwaves Tuesday morning and touted his $4 billion transportation proposal – while also defending a question from a caller about the plan’s reliance on debt.

“I’m not running for anything,” he said on WNIS 760 in Norfolk in response to a caller who hinted that the transportation plan had to do with McDonnell’s aspirations for higher office. “I’m thrilled to be governor of Virginia.”

He also defended his $4 billion transportation proposal, versions of which have cleared both houses of the General Assembly, noting that Wall Street regulators have no problem with the plan and that the debt involved has already been authorized.

“This is responsible borrowing with an identified way of paying it back,” he said. “You’re going to see money on the street, this year, at the end of this session to build roads, particularly in Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia.”
