Fire damages GW fraternity house

A fire Tuesday afternoon caused significant damage to a fraternity house at George Washington University.

The blaze broke out at the Zeta Beta Tau house, located at 605 21st St. NW, at about 3 p.m., according to Pete Piringer, spokesman for D.C. fire and emergency services.

A student moving into the house on the Foggy Bottom campus smelled smoke and called the fire department, Piringer said. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and fire at the three-story rowhouse. Most of the building’s occupants had moved out last week.

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire appears to be accidental, Piringer said, but authorities are still investigating.
