Could Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke be appointed to DHS?

Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke, who was a vocal supporter of President Trump throughout his campaign, could soon land himself a position in the Department of Homeland Security.

Clarke is in line to be appointed as assistant secretary at DHS’ Office of Partnership and Engagement, Politico reported Friday.

The position, which does not require Senate confirmation, coordinates outreach to state, local and tribal officials and law enforcement.

It’s “not a done deal yet,” a senior administration official told Politico.

Clarke is often shrouded in controversy for his outspoken views on law enforcement, government and race. More recently, he has come under fire because of the death of Terril Thomas, who died of dehydration while in the Milwaukee County Jail last year after guards turned off the water in his cell.
