Rep. Jack Kingston: When is 100 hours not 100 hours? When you’re a Democrat

Published January 19, 2007 5:00am ET

In the weeks leading up to last November’s election, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., promised the American people that if elected, within the first 100 hours of the new Congress, the Democrats would pass their “6 for ’06” legislative agenda — promising congressional ethics reforms, student loan rate reductions, full implementation of the 9/11 Commission recommendations, increasing the minimum wage for all workers, expanding stem cell research and ending subsidies for big oil companies.

Even though this agenda of golden oldies was absent of original ideas, it was unrealistic to achieve in 100 hours. But never fear because the Democrats assured themselves of victory by re-defining “hour,” fixing the clock, and blocking any amendments.
