1. Various aftermath of derailed commuter train that rammed through concrete barrier
STORYLINE:
A Philippine commuter train rammed through a concrete barrier and rolled into a busy intersection on Wednesday, injuring scores of passengers and damaging vehicles, officials said.
Rescuers removed dozens of injured passengers from the train’s front car and took them to hospitals in Pasay city, in metropolitan Manila.
There were no immediate reports of fatalities from the accident, which caused a huge traffic jam.
Senior Superintendent Florencio Ortilla, who heads the Pasay city police, said the train toppled concrete posts, spraying debris and damaging at least one car and a motorcycle.
A spokesman of the agency that operates the train system, said the train had a “technical problem”, lost power and was being pushed by another train when it became detached and rolled into the concrete barrier at the line’s final station.
