Trump told Jordan’s King Abdullah a one-state solution would lead to Israeli prime minister named ‘Mohammed’: Report

A one-state solution to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict could result in an Israeli prime minister with the name “Mohammed,” President Trump told Jordan’s King Abdullah II, according to a report Sunday.

“Many young Palestinians don’t want the two-state solution anymore, but would rather live together with the Israelis in one state with equal rights for all,” King Abdullah told Trump during his June 25 White House visit, Axios reports. “The result will be that Israel will lose its Jewish character”.

“What you say makes sense,” Trump replied before quipping: “[In a one-state scenario,] the prime minister of Israel in a few years will be called Mohammed”.

The Axios report is based on a briefing the king gave French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian during the diplomat’s early August trip to Jordan capital’s Amman. He also told Le Drian that he urged Trump not to expedite the presentation of his Middle East peace plan, advising him European and Arab consultation was crucial to its success.

The White House was reportedly in the “late stages” of finalizing its peace plan in May around the time it made the controversial move of the Israeli U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The decision sparked deadly protests by Palestinians, who also recognize the city as their capital.

Details surrounding the White House’s framework are scant. The administration’s efforts, spearheaded by White House senior adviser Jared Kushner, were expected to be revealed in June or July.
