Gov. Martin O’Malley has introduced a one-minute radio ad that airs seven times a recording of his Republican opponent, former governor Bob Ehrlich, saying “Drill, baby, drill.”
“When 80,000 gallons of oil spilled in South Baltimore, Bob Ehrlich was the lobbyist representing the oil company,” a female’s voice says in the ad, referring to a 2008 spill. The speaker’s statement is sandwiched by Ehrlich’s recorded line.
“As oil coats the Gulf Coast, that’s the voice of big oil lobbyist Bob Ehrlich,” she says.
The ad highlights what O’Malley’s campaign qualifies as a pro-oil voting record from Ehrlich’s time in Congress.
“So why would Bob Ehrlich repeatedly side with big oil before Maryland families?” the speaker asks, followed by another recording of Ehrlich.
“Life’s good. We made money. A lot of money,” he says in the recording.
The ad comes one day after O’Malley officially filed for candidacy.
