D.C. Campaign finance office opens investigation into ‘Team Thomas’

The D.C. Office of Campaign Finance has opened an investigation into allegations that Ward 5 Councilman Harry Thomas created a nonprofit entity to fund personal expenses.

The D.C. Republican Party accused of Thomas last fall of using using cash from his re-election campaign to fund his nonprofit, Team Thomas. The campaign finance office then referred the accusations to the D.C. Attorney General, who has been investigating the claims since.

Thomas has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

But Tuesday evening, the finance office sent a letter to the GOP saying it has now opened a formal investigation into the accusations.

According to the letter, OCF is looking specifically at claims that Thomas failed dto isclose his receiving an Audi car from a company he’s associated with and did not disclose travel expenses covered by the nonprofit Team Thomas. The office is also investigating allegations that Thomas and members of his staff used government resources while on non-government business.
