President Trump defended calling Apple CEO Tim Cook by “Time Apple” during a recent meeting, claiming that he was “saving time.”
“At a recent round table meeting of business executives, & long after formally introducing Tim Cook of Apple, I quickly referred to Tim + Apple as Tim/Apple as an easy way to save time & words. The Fake News was disparagingly all over this, & it became yet another bad Trump story!” Trump posted to Twitter Monday morning, after the incident went widely noticed in the media.

Cook seemed to lean into the new nickname, and even changed his Twitter handle to his first name followed with an Apple logo.
Trump made the comments during last Wednesday’s meeting with a American Workforce Policy Advisory Board meeting.
On Friday, however, Trump tried to convince Republican donors at an event in Mar-a-Lago that he had actually said “Tim Cook Apple,” but that the “Cook” was said really softly and was not audible in the recording of the meeting, Axios reported.
“I just thought, why would you lie about that,” one of the donors said to Axios. “It doesn’t even matter.”
