CNN sent a memo to staff Wednesday morning saying editors were “thrilled” that a former spokeswoman for former Attorney General Jeff Sessions was joining the team.
The memo to staff said Sarah Isgur Flores will bring “a wealth of government, political, communications, and legal experience to our team,” according to CNN media correspondent Brian Stelter.

Flores will join CNN next month as a political editor, and word of the move sparked backlash on social media Tuesday from critics who said she would be unable to remain unbiased in favor of the Trump administration.
In its Wednesday morning email, CNN clarified her role, saying she would “spend the first few months here getting to know our systems” before helping to coordinate 2020 coverage.
“Sarah is not leading, overseeing, or running political coverage,” a CNN spokesperson told Vox on Tuesday.
Left-leaning reporters said that CNN was making a “mockery” of themselves by hiring a “right-wing hack” and “Republican flack.”
