Woman finds $36,000 inside couch she acquired for free on Craigslist

A California woman found $36,000 hidden in the cushions of a couch she obtained for free on Craigslist.

Vicky Umodu was scrolling the website in an effort to furnish her new home when she happened upon two couches and a chair. The family behind the ad claimed that the couch in question was from a deceased family member and that they were clearing their entire property out.

Umodu opened the cushions after it appeared there was something inside when she brought them home. When she found the envelopes of cash, she opted to keep the couches and chair but returned the cash to the family.

“God has been kind to me and my children — they’re all alive and well. I have three beautiful grandchildren, so what can I ever ask from God?” Umodu said.

After she returned the money, the family admitted to her that they’d found other wads of cash in the walls of the home. In exchange for Umodu’s honesty, the family paid for her new refrigerator and awarded her $2,200 of the cash she’d found.
