1. BEST RESTAURANT
It would have to be Houlihan’s in the Hilton Springfield.
2. BEST MODE OF TRANSPORTATION
I like the Metro. It’s clean, efficient, and you don’t have to find that elusive parking space once you get downtown.
3. FAVORITE LOCAL SPORTS EVENT
There’s nothing better than watching the Nats play on a nice sunny day.
4. BEST LIVE MUSIC
Jimmy Buffett playing at Wolf Trap.
5. BEST PLACE FOR OUT-OF-TOWN VISITORS
The Udvar-Hazy center in Chantilly. There’s not any other place you can show somebody an SR-71 and a space shuttle. It kinds of blows them away when they see that. Usually, of all the places I go, that’s the one where people go “Wow, that was really cool.”
6. BEST HISTORICAL SPOT
I like Mount Vernon. George Washington is the father of our country. What they’ve done out there in the last 17 years is amazing.
7. BEST ESCAPE
Walking the trails at Great Falls National Park.
8. FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND A LAZY SUNDAY
Probably strolling through the National Zoo with my kids.
9. BEST MEMORY OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA
My first Fourth of July on the Mall, and seeing the fireworks with all the people. It was just an experience that if you’ve never done it, you just have to do it.
10. LEAST FAVORITE PART OF LIVING IN THE D.C. AREA
As everybody — traffic.
11. BEST KID-FRIENDLY ENTERTAINMENT
It would have to be the National Zoo and the National Mall. There is no admittance fee and the kids can just come and go as they please, and they just have a great time and they learn something in the process.
