The head of the Senate Judiciary Committee said Friday that FBI investigators could leak details of their probe into Hillary Clinton’s emails, though he stopped short of saying they should.

“Is there going to be political interference? If there’s enough evidence to prosecute, will there be political interference?” Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, asked in remarks delivered before the Des Moines A.M. Rotary club.
“If there’s political interference, then I assume that somebody in the FBI is going to leak these reports and it’s either going to have an effect politically or it’s going to lead to prosecution if there’s enough evidence.”
Observers have remarked that if officials involved with the investigation into Clinton’s secret server feel their work has been politicized or mishandled by the Justice Department, they may leak any details they find of Clinton wrongdoing.
Asked if he was advising the FBI to leak information, Grassley said, “I wouldn’t be encouraging it because if it’s a violation of law, I can’t be encouraging a violation of law … This is kind of my own opinion, this is something I’ve heard.”

The State Department released more than 30,000 emails that Clinton sent or received as secretary of state over the last year, of which 22 received the highest classification “top secret” and 65 the second highest, “secret.” If Clinton or any of her associates at the department are found to have mishandled that information, it could result in criminal penalties.
Clinton deleted another 30,000 emails that were on the server, rather than handing them over to the department, saying they were “personal” in nature. The FBI reportedly recovered some, if not all, of that stash.
