Comedian Jimmy Kimmel joked Monday that his emotional plea to save Obamacare was “insensitive.”
“I’d like to apologize for saying that children in America should have healthcare,” he said. “It was insensitive, it was offensive, and I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.”
Last week, Kimmel opened his show by tearfully telling viewers about his newborn son’s rare heart defect.
“I made an emotional speech that was seen by millions, and as a result of my powerful words on that night, Republicans in Congress had second thoughts about repeal and replace,” Kimmel joked last night.
“I saved health insurance in the United States of America! What’s that? I didn’t save it? They voted against it anyway?” Kimmel continued.
Republicans in the House narrowly passed a bill last week to repeal and replace Obamacare. The Senate is expected to significantly change the legislation in the coming months.
Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy also appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” after asking whether the Obamacare repeal would pass the “Jimmy Kimmel test” last week.
