Twitter CEO considering changes to the retweet button

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said he is considering changes to one of Twitter’s most prominent features.

“Definitely thinking about the incentives and ramifications of all actions, including retweet,” Dorsey told Buzzfeed on Tuesday. “Retweet with comment for instance might encourage more consideration before spread.”

The comment came as a part of a Buzzfeed interview with the developer of the retweet, Chris Wetherell, who said he regrets creating the feature.

“We might have just handed a 4-year-old a loaded weapon,” Wetherell said. “That’s what I think we actually did.”

Jason Goldman, the head of product for Twitter when the retweet was created, agreed with Wetherell.

“The biggest problem is the quote retweet,” Goldman said. “Quote retweet allows for the dunk. It’s the dunk mechanism.”

Dorsey’s scrutiny of the retweet button follows Twitter’s latest update of the social media platform.

The 42-year-old CEO has also been critical of the like feature on Twitter.
