‘Polling at a solid zero’: Trump mocks de Blasio as he drops out of 2020 race

President Trump mocked New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who exited the race for the Democratic presidential nomination on Friday, joking that the city would be “devastated” he’ll be back to his mayoral duties full time.

In a tweet shortly after de Blasio said he was ending his presidential campaign, Trump teased that it was “perhaps the biggest story in years!”

“Part time Mayor of New York City, @BilldeBlasio, who was polling at a solid ZERO but had tremendous room for growth, has shocking dropped out of the Presidential race. NYC is devastated, he’s coming home!” Trump wrote.

De Blasio failed to make the third Democratic debate earlier this month and was unlikely to meet the polling and donation thresholds to secure a spot on the debate stage next month.

“I feel like I’ve contributed all I can to this primary election, and it’s clearly not my time, so I’m going to end my presidential campaign,” de Blasio said Friday.
