Poll: Warren ties Biden at 26%

Elizabeth Warren tied Joe Biden in an Economist/YouGov poll released Wednesday, with each receiving 26% support nationwide among registered voters likely to vote in Democratic presidential primary contests, a rare survey finding the former vice president not leading the race.

Biden’s percentage remained unchanged from an Economist/YouGov poll conducted Sept. 1-3, while the Massachusetts senator saw a 3-point gain from the 22% she received in that poll.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is in third place with 16%, a 2-point gain from the Sept. 1-3 poll. South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg and California Sen. Kamala Harris each received 6% support. New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker and tech entrepreneur Andrew Yang received 2% support, while all other candidates polled at 1% or less.

In the context of other recent measures of candidate standings in the Democratic primary race, the poll is an outlier. A recent Politico/Morning Consult poll conducted Sept. 2-8 found Biden had 33% support, Sanders with 21%, and Warren at 16%. An ABC News/Washington Post poll from early this month found Biden at 29%, Sanders at 19%, and Warren with 18% among registered voters.

A Monmouth University poll conducted last month, however, found Warren, Sanders, and Biden in a statistical tie, with Warren and Sanders garnering 20% and Biden at 19%.

The Economist/YouGov poll was conducted Sept. 8-10 among 1,500 U.S. adults, 594 of whom said they were registered voters who planned to vote in the 2020 Democratic primary, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3%.
