White House spokesman Josh Earnest on Monday refused to confirm or deny if the U.S. was the “state actor” that allegedly cut WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s Internet connection.
WikiLeaks’ claimed that a government ordered someone to deny Assange Internet access from his haven inside the Ecuadorian Embassy in London in retaliation for his leaks of Democratic Party, State Department, FBI and other political and governmental emails.
“There are a lot of rumors swirling” that the U.S. is behind the disruption, Earnest acknowledged.
“I’m not in a position to confirm whether that’s true or not, just because I’m not in a position to confirm or deny any sort of classified operations on the part of the United States,” Earnest said.
