Robert Mueller requests more details about Mike Flynn investigation

Special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating more details concerning former national security adviser Mike Flynn and what White House officials knew about his federal investigation at the beginning of 2017, according to a report Wednesday.

Mueller has indicated his team plans to interview White House officials and additionally, his team asked for documents concerning Flynn and a Justice Department warning about Flynn’s ties to a Russian diplomat, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Mueller’s probe, which was started on the premise of investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election and whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Kremlin, is reportedly looking into whether President Trump and other officials attempted to thwart the Russia investigation.

Flynn was forced to resign from his post on Feb. 13 due to disingenuous statements about his communications with Russian officials. Meanwhile, Trump met with former Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey in the Oval Office the following day. Comey told Congress that Trump asked him if there was a way “to letting Flynn go” during the meeting.

As a result, Mueller is reportedly examining whether Trump obstructed justice in his interactions with Comey, although Trump has said he did not behave inappropriately.

Currently, Flynn and Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort are two figures of particular interest in the Mueller investigation.

Mueller has told Manafort his team intends to charge him with possible tax and financial crimes and is investigating Manafort’s actions spanning over the course of more than ten years.
