Bill Stanley, a Franklin County lawyer and chairman of Virginia’s 5th District Republican Committee, was nominated by Virginia Republicans to run for the state Senate seat vacated when Robert Hurt won a congressional seat Nov. 2.
Stanley will square off against Democrat Hank Davis, chairman of the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors, in a special election in the 19th Senate District on Jan. 11.
The winner will Hurt, who defeated Tom Perriello in the 5th Congressional District race.
The General Assembly convenes on Jan. 12.
