Bill Stanley, a Franklin County lawyer and chairman of Virginia’s 5^th District Republican Committee, was nominated by Virginia Republicans to run for the state Senate seat vacated when Robert Hurt won a congressional seat Nov. 2.

Stanley will square off against Democrat Hank Davis, chairman of the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors, in a special election in the 19th Senate District on Jan. 11.
