Republican strategist Steve Schmidt shredded President Trump on Sunday for his behavior at the G-7 summit in Canada, arguing he ‘beclowned’ the country and the presidency while doing damage to important international relationships abroad.
“TRUMP disgraced the Presidency and the United States at the G-7 summit,” Schmidt wrote on Twitter.
“From his slovenly appearance to his unpreparedness, ignorance and arrogance, he beclowned himself. The Republican majority is filled with cowards who are servile supplicants to the most unfit POTUS ever,” he continued.

Trump sarcastically congratulated the world leaders gathered at the summit for taking advantage of the U.S. on trade during a short address on Saturday, vowing that “those days are over.” He was also tardy to the morning’s Gender Equality Advisory Council Breakfast, entering the room while the Canadian ambassador to France, Isabelle Hudon, was speaking.
Shortly after leaving the event, Trump lashed out at Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Twitter for being “dishonest” and “weak” regarding their trade dispute over steel and aluminum tariffs. He then directed U.S. officials not to affirm the communique signed by the other G-7 members.
In addition, Trump caused diplomatic waves on his way to the summit Friday when he suggested that Russia should be attending the conference too. Russia was removed from what had been the G-8 in 2014 after its annexation of Crimea in Ukraine.
“I think it’s time we give Vladimir Putin his due. He is clearly the greatest intelligence agent — ever,” Schmidt tweeted Sunday.
“He has engineered the unraveling of the western alliance, fidelity to democracy in the United States and the severing of the UK from the EU. It’s a remarkable achievement,” he added.
