President-elect Trump Monday moved to diminish the United Nations, calling it “just a club” where people chat things up and enjoy themselves.
“The United Nations has such great potential but right now it is just a club for people to get together, talk and have a good time. So sad!” Trump wrote in a tweet.

The message comes following a decision by President Obama to abstain from a U.N. Security Council vote condemning Israel’s settlements in the West Bank and parts of Jerusalem. The abstention marked an historic change in policy that permitted the resolution to pass.
Trump sought to scuttle the measure, successfully pressuring Egypt to withdraw the resolution, but others put it up for a vote instead.
Trump Friday suggested he will take a less solicitous approach toward the United Nations than President Obama has, tweeting, “Things will be different after Jan 20” with respect to the U.N.
