Seth Meyers jumps on the Erick Erickson ‘hypocrite’ bandwagon

NBC’s Seth Meyers has joined many in the press in criticizing Erick Erickson for banning Donald trump from a conference this weekend.

Trump appeared to suggest last week that Fox News’ Megyn Kelly was menstruating when she moderated the first GOP primary debate. For Erickson, Trump’s remarks went too far, so he disinvited the controversial 2016 Republican presidential candidate from the Atlanta RedState gathering.

But Erickson has his own history of controversial comments aimed at women. So media labelled the Trump disinvite “hypocritical.”

“It’s a big deal when Erick Erickson disinvites you for sexism,” Meyers said this week, joining with reporters and commentators in criticizing the Trump ban. “Because Erick Erickson is a huge sexist.”

“It’s never good when your argument starts, ‘Look at the other animals,'” the late night comedian added. “‘Erick, stop shi–ing on the front lawn!’ ‘But the other animals!'”

Erickson acknowledged this week that he has said stupid things in the past about women.

“I have said a lot of dumb things in my life that I’ve apologized for,” Erickson said in a Fox interview Monday. “There are a number of them I’ve apologized for.”

“I think the difference between me and Donald Trump is I’m not running for president and I did apologize, not just change my story,” he added.

Disinviting Trump has proven unpopular with right-wing activists, Erickson said elsewhere in a blog post.

“It’s the whirlwind of hate right now,” he wrote Sunday. “My Twitter feed is unusable. It’s just angry people, many of them very recently created accounts of people following few others and with little to no followers.”
