The Virginia Department of Transportation yanked a developer’s permit to work on Highway 50 after a construction worker was killed in Loudoun County Tuesday. David Rodriguez, 66, of Manassas, died after a company work truck ran over him as William Hazel Construction Inc. prepared to paint lines on the side of the road at a development. Rodriguez died at the scene.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident, spokesman Kraig Troxell said. “This truck backed up and for whatever reason, he didn’t hear it and the driver of the truck didn’t see him.”
The unusual fatality and other issues with the work site, including road signs that did not meet state standards, led the state to revoke the work permit.
“We have shut them down,” said Joan Morris, a Virginia Department of Transportation spokeswoman. “It’s temporarily pulled until everything is cleared up.”
