Two Senate Democrats want President Trump to release the membership list for his Palm Beach golf club Mar-a-Lago to find out “who is getting access to the president.”
Trump is slated to spend the weekend at his Florida mansion, which includes both a private residence that he occupies as well as a resort and spa for members.
Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., and Tom Udall, D-N.M., said in a scathing letter to Trump that his expensive club, where the initiation fee has been raised to $200,000, “is financially out of reach for all but the wealthiest Americans and international elites.”
Whitehouse and Udall want Trump to release the membership list as well as the members and visitors who are present while Trump is visiting.
The two Democrats also want Trump to disclose what screening methods are going to be deployed to ensure there is no security risk and “to determine whether any have ties to foreign governments or other entities that seek to influence you or United States policy.”
They said releasing the information is necessary if Trump is to “dispel any suspicions” that the wealthy are purchasing access to the president by paying to be members of the club.
