The “Western White House,” once known as former President Richard Nixon’s West Coast home, is back on the mark, listed for sale at $63.5 million.
The San Clemente oceanfront property in Southern California contains nine bedrooms and 11.75 bathrooms in its 15,000-square-foot floor plan. Two of the bedrooms are located in a guesthouse.
The “La Casa Pacificia” home was built in 1926. The Spanish Colonial Revival-themed home sits on 5.45 acres, includes 450 feet of private beach front, and has ocean views that stretch 60 miles into the distance, according to Redfin.
The home previously was placed on the market for $75 million in 2015, but never sold.
Now, at $4,233 per square foot, the price is still astronomically high compared to the median list price per square foot in California at $312.
The current owner is Gavin Herbert, former chief executive of Allergan Pharmaceuticals. He has held onto the estate for three decades since buying it from Nixon in the 1980s.
The expansive property comes with a greenhouse, swimming pool, formal gardens, tennis court, staff residences and offices. It also boasts a 3,000-square-foot entertainment pavilion.
Nixon bought the property in 1969, the first year of his presidency. He resigned from office in August 1974 following the Watergate scandal and the belief that he would have been impeached by Congress.
He hosted Japanese Premier Eisaku Sato, South Vietnamese President Nguyen Van Thieu and former President Lyndon B. Johnson at the Western White House.
