Leslie Jones says 2022 Olympics might be her last to live-tweet

Leslie Jones says the 2022 Winter Olympics might be her last to live-tweet.

The 54-year-old Emmy-nominated TV host and stand-up comedian expressed her frustration “fighting the folks” who don’t want her to live-tweet in a series of social media posts Monday. Jones has provided uncensored commentary for the past several winter and summer Olympics and has continued as the Beijing Olympics began Friday.

“[I’m] starting to feel like this should be my last olympics [I] live tweet,” she wrote in a tweet. “They block my videos and they get folks who think they can do it like me.”

Jones, a Saturday Night Live alumna, alluded to the source of her frustration in several tweets, NBC, which has exclusive broadcast rights to the Olympics through 2032. NBC had Jones provide coverage of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang but did not bring her on for this year’s coverage.

“I love the athletes and they love me doing it,” she continued. “It’s just gotten too hard. And no one is fighting for or with me.”

An NBC spokesman told the Associated Press that some of Jones’s videos were blocked due to “third-party error” and not NBC.

“We have resolved the situation. She is free to do her social media posts as she has done in the past,” the representative, Greg Hughes, told the news outlet. “She is a super fan of the Olympics and we are super fans of her.”
