Two dead in separate Southeast D.C. shootings

Two men died in separate shooting incidents less than three miles apart Saturday night and early Sunday morning in Southeast D.C. The first shooting occurred around 9 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of Trenton Place in the Congress Heights neighborhood where police found Antwan Lamont Petty, 19, dead from a gun shot wound. The second shooting occurred around 1 a.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of Chicago Street near Anacostia. The victim Henry Charles Miller, 32, later died at a nearby hospital. Police have already charged a suspect, David Allen Shepherd, 48, of Northeast with murder in the Chicago Street shooting.

Two women injured after vehicle crashes into apartment

Two women were hospitalized after one crashed her car into the other’s apartment in Riverdale Sunday morning, Prince George’s County police said. The incident occurred around 3:35 a.m. and the driver, a 29-year-old woman who lived in the building, had been attempting to park when her brakes gave out, according to her police statement. Her car crashed into the bedroom of a 37-year-old neighbor who said she was tossed out of bed, according to Sgt. Sonya Rorls. The victim, who received a head injury, was taken to the hospital and later released. The driver was still hospitalized with chest pains Sunday. Police are investigating the incident, Rorls said.

One child remains hospitalized after deadly SUV accident

One of the four children injured after a woman accidentally backed her SUV into them while they were in a driveway remains hospitalized, according to Prince George’s County police. A fifth child, 8-year-old Natalie Hernandez-Cruz, died after the Thursday night accident in Lewisdale. The girl’s mother, Marianable Cruz-Lopez, was the driver and police have not charged her with any crime. Cruz-Lopez’s 2-year-old son was also injured. He was discharged Friday as were a 6-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl. A 10-year-old boy remains at the hospital in “critical/stable condition.”
