Man who sent controversial campaign e-mail was paid Gray worker

The contact listed on an e-mail sent out by a Gray for Mayor campaign worker asking for the stories of people fired by the Fenty administration was paid $2,000 in July as a consultant for the campaign, finance records show.

The e-mail obtained by The Washington Examiner is dated Aug. 7 and asks anyone fired by the Fenty administration and who wants to share their story to contact Keith Childs, who is listed as a consultant in the finance report.

The Gray campaign said on Monday, when the e-mail was first reported, that it wasn’t authorized and was sent by a volunteer.

Gray spokeswoman Traci Hughes said on Wednesday that Childs was a “canvasser” for the campaign and the e-mail was sent without authorization by a “Dr. Brown” who is not paid by the campaign.
