Trump taps prominent defense lawyer for Fulton County inquiry

Former President Donald Trump is reportedly tapping a prominent defense lawyer to help him navigate the Fulton County inquiry.

Trump has tapped lawyer Drew Findling, who previously represented several famous rappers, to represent him in the sprawling inquiry, which is investigating whether crimes were committed during the aftermath of the 2020 election, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

TRUMP CONSULTING POWERHOUSE LAWYER DWIGHT THOMAS FOR FULTON COUNTY CASE: REPORT

“Drew is a spectacular attorney, and the former president could not have chosen better,” Atlanta criminal attorney Bruce Morris told the news outlet.

Findling was the former president of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, a group that seeks to reform “flaws and inequities in the criminal justice system,” according to the group’s website.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis initiated the 2020 election inquiry last year after audio surfaced of Trump discussing the need to “find” 11,780 votes during a call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. Trump has since denied wrongdoing and upheld the call as “perfect.”

Willis’s inquiry has also focused on two phone calls Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) had with Raffensperger, the sudden resignation of a U.S. attorney in Georgia, and controversial election claims Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani made to the state Senate in December 2020.

A special grand jury was impaneled in May to assist with the inquiry and issue subpoenas. Willis has kept the door open to subpoenaing Trump but has declined to do so thus far. The inquiry has subpoenaed Graham, Giuliani, and a slew of other Trump allies.

Recently, prominent lawyer Dwight Thomas confirmed Trump’s team had been consulting with him to help navigate the inquiry. Thomas is one of the most high-profile lawyers in the area, with decades of legal experience under his belt.

”Several lawyers have reached out to me about my expertise in special purpose grand juries,” Thomas told the news outlet. “I’m helping quite a few lawyers who have interest in this matter.”

In addition to Fulton County, Trump is reportedly facing legal scrutiny in multiple other cases. This includes a Justice Department review of his handling of presidential documents, a DOJ inquiry about the Jan. 6 riot, New York Attorney General Letitia James’s civil review of his business practices, and the Manhattan district attorney’s criminal examination of the Trump Organization.
