Kyrsten Sinema says ‘hang in there buddy’ interaction with George Santos after Romney spat never happened

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema‘s (I-AZ) office says a friendly interaction between her and embattled Rep. George Santos (R-NY) never happened.

Santos, who admitted to fabricating major aspects of his background and is facing multiple investigations, said Sinema told him to “hang in there, buddy” as she walked in with other senators to the State of the Union on Tuesday. The comment allegedly happened after Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT), who was just behind Sinema in the procession, told Santos he didn’t belong in Congress.

STATE OF THE UNION 2023: SANTOS AND ROMNEY RAISE EYEBROWS WITH ‘TENSE’ EXCHANGE OF WORDS

Sinema’s office and official Twitter said she did not say anything to that effect, and in the video of the exchange, she was speaking to other lawmakers.

In a Thursday interview with Newsmax, Santos contrasted his interaction with Romney with his short conversation with Sinema.

“She said something to the effect of ‘hang in there, buddy,’ or something like that. I said, ‘Thank you, Madam Senator.’ She was very polite, very kind-hearted, as I’ve learned to see her,” he said. “She’s a good person, unlike Mr. Romney, who thinks he’s above it all and has a whole, mighty white horse trying to talk [down] to us on morality. The reality is he’s always been prejudiced towards minorities — he had it in his 2012 election, and that’s why he didn’t become president.”

Santos added that what he said back to Romney was unrepeatable on television.

Romney told reporters after the State of the Union, “Given the fact that he’s under ethics investigation, he should be sitting in the back row and being quiet instead of parading in front of the president.”

Santos’ fabrications include saying he went to two universities that don’t have records of his attendance, claiming his mother survived the 9/11 terrorist attack when she wasn’t in the country, and claiming that his grandparents were Holocaust survivors. He is facing an ethics investigation.
