Top Democrat: All of Democratic leadership has ‘got to go’ if party fails to take the House

Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., wants a clean sweep of Democratic leadership in the House if the party fails to take control of the House in the upcoming midterm elections.

“If we’re still in the minority, all of us have got to go,” the assistant Democratic leader told Politico.

Clyburn, who serves as one of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s top lieutenants, said his party is going to have a “real assessment” after the election and a shakeup among Democrats is likely, regardless of outcome.

He referred to Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan as a “good friend” and drinking partner during the interview, which took place during a fish fry. In a candid fashion, Clyburn said that he doesn’t take Ryan’s challenge to Pelosi personally and said he “understands” what he’s doing.
