A book lover?s holiday party

Daedalus Books and Music will be opening its doors ? and lots of books ? with its 2006 Holiday Author Signing and Breakfast.

The bargain bookstore will be hosting a holiday party today at 10 a.m. with over 15 local and national authors specializing in everything from science fiction to children?s picture books.

The event is co-sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University Press. “We already have a good relationship with the Johns Hopkins press; we love their books,” Daedalus Books manager Heidi Bell said. “It seemed like a natural way to further our collaborative efforts with them.”

This is a unique event, the first of its kind for Daedalus Books and Music. “I have a bargain bookstore and do not sell a lot of new titles,” Bell said. “[Signings like this] will not be on a constant basis.”

The breakfast and signing includes authors Gil Sandler, Bryan MacKay, Michael Olesker, Frank Shivers, Bert and Anthea Smith, Kathy Alexander, RobertKeith, Ted Patterson, Jacques Kelly, Robert J. Brugger, Elizabeth Spires and Madison Smartt Bell. Children?s authors include Jonathon Scott Fuqua, Jane Leslie Conly, Mary Claire Helldorfer and Colby Rodowsky.

“We?re not doing any readings, it?s just sort of a meet-and-greet,” Bell said. “We?ll have bagels and coffee and juice and water. I think it?s going to be a lot of fun.”
