The Romanian man who hacked into Hillary Clinton’s private email server during her stint at secretary of state said the system was not secure, according to an interview released by NBC News on Wednesday.
Marcel Lehel Lazar, known as Guccifer, was able to get into Clinton’s account by first tapping into her friend’s, Sidney Blumenthal, he told reporter Cynthia McFadden. It is the first TV interview the hacker has given and the clip ran on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt.
“When Hillary Clinton says that her server is absolutely safe — you’re laughing,” McFadden asked Guccifer.
“That’s a lie,” Guccifer said.
“That a lie?” McFadden responded.
“Yes,” the hacker admitted.
“It’s not safe,” McFadden stated.
“It’s not safe at all,” Guccifer confirmed.
The full story will air in the Sunday premiere of “On Assignment,” a six-episode series that looks into the Democratic presidential candidate’s FBI probe.
